Effingham

Poor Heather.  One year when she went home for Christmas, they were threatening to close the whole town down because some train cars carrying something noxious and possibly toxic had derailed there.  Heather was not much worried about it, but she’s not really the worrying type anyway.  When I was nine, we had a noxious and toxic Christmas when a distant cousin showed up at Grandma’s house, having recently been released from a mental institution where she did time for the attempted murder of her son.  She hung around for weeks, smoking millions of cigarettes and looking at her reflection in the kitchen knives, especially when all us kids were fooling around.

On this one, Jay Bennett came over and messed around with feedback which he and Brendan then comped together to make that howling sounding thing in there, Jon and Brendan stayed up all night waiting for something to happen near the mike they had set up outside the studio when suddenly a dog barked as a car went by, and Brendan recorded the other instruments, whatever they are.  I mostly stayed home and enjoyed the Two Fat Ladies cooking show, reruns of Homicide, and the Animal Planet.

Since this writing, we've completely redone this song. Now it's a complete rock anthem, heavy hands and all. The sound byte here is from the earlier version with Jay.
