Brian Wilkie at Wrigley Field

Here It Comes

This is the first one we cut live as a band. That's Todd on piano, Brian on upright bass (which he claims he had never played until the following day) and pedal steel, Brendan on drums and cowboy acoustic guitar. Rather than having Brendan and Brian play two very different instruments each at exactly the same time, we added pedal steel and drums the second day, but otherwise the tracks are live and not messed with, not even the vocals for god's sake. In order to accomplish this group effort, we set up in the B room, and Jonathan, on one of his routine checks of the joint, "just made everything louder". This was the take after the take where we all gave up and decided we were getting worse and worse.

Is an explanation of lyrics REALLY necessary? We had some neighbors, whose house has since been torn down, who put yellow and red plastic tulips in the ground along the walk up to their door. During the spring. In the most fertile soil on earth. It was the first time I ever saw anybody do that, so later when I met Shelly I was nonplussed by her yard full of fakes, though the doll collection inside her house did make me nervous.
